Indo-Pak peace march from Delhi to Multan flagged offMuhammad Muzaffar Hameed - muzaffar@bzu.edu.pk on Saturday, March 26, 2005 - 2:02:29 PM Aim of the Indo-Pak peace march is to walk into the hearts of the people, expressed the participants of the march at the Dargah of great Sufi saint before embarking on unique travel to fostering peace process between the two countries. The walk, which has been organised by citizen groups of India and Pakistan, witnessed tremendous support from both sides of the borders. Various prominent personalities, including Mahesh Bhatt, Nafisa Ali, SAR Geelani, expressed their solidarity on the occasion. The walk, which started on Wednesday (March 23) after an offering at the Dargah in Delhi, is destined to touch Multan in Pakistan on May 11. Marchers, participating in the walk from Pakistan included Irfan Multi and Muqtida AK Masoor. The basic aim is to dispel the notion of animosity created by certain quarters to serve their interests. It is an attempt to bring people together at the grassroots level and make them realise how similar they are, said a participant of the march. The route, indicated by the activists from both sides for peace march, had been undertaken by Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia (RA) in the 13th century. |
