Online Degree Program

For people who hold a full time job, earning a college degree has traditionally meant putting in long hours in classrooms and lecture halls at night, usually after spending a full day at work.  However, a recent trend in higher education is making it much easier for non-traditional students to earn their degree while attending courses from the comfort of their own home.  Online degree programs are now offered by many colleges and universities over the internet using special software designed to simulate the classroom experience.

Earning an online degree provides a student the opportunity to attain just as much, if not more, knowledge than that gained from attending classes in a traditional college experience.  This is due to the specially designed software and teaching methods that accredited online degree programs employ, which serve to stimulate group learning, as opposed to independent study.  Because students and professors cannot be in the same location physically to hold discussions about the various course topics, the curriculum is usually more heavily weighted toward online discussion and group work to compensate for this.  The website software used by the average online degree program enables students to join together as groups and discuss projects by posting messages.  Some software systems even provide the ability to chat in real-time.  Lectures are posted as documents that can be read online, and often the instructor will post questions that are designed to stimulate discussion, as students are usually required to respond to the question as well as to their fellow students’ responses.  Exams and assignments are given as well, and are uploaded by the students into the software system after they are completed.

For people who are unable to attend classes in a classroom due to job or family responsibilities, disability, or geography, online degree programs offer the opportunity to earn a college diploma over the internet, and have an educational experience that is just as rewarding as through a traditional classroom program.
